State Wrestling Day 1 individual results:
? Coon Rapids had four wrestlers in the Class AAA Individual state tournament.
Coon Rapids freshman Blane Tschida (106) reached the championship semifinals with wins over Stillwater seventh grader Christian Bahl by a 4-2 decision in the opening round, followed by a tough 5-3 overtime win against Farmington eighth-grader Taylor Venz.
The win sets up a semifinal match against Apple Valley freshman Maolu Woiwor.
? Junior Joe Anderson (120) was pinned by Irondale?s Dustin Weinmann in the opening round. Weinmann lost in the second round to cut Anderson?s run at the state tournament.
? Cardinals junior 220-pounder Michael Burckhardt added two wins to move into the championship semifinals. Friday?s action began with a 9-0 win over St. Cloud Apollo sophomore Bryce Kirchner and follwed that with a 9-6 win over Roseville?s David Johnson. Johnson pinned Apple Valley sophomore Trom Petersen in 38 seconds in his tournament opener.
Burckhardt faces Owatonna?s Coyte Kuefner in Saturday?s semifinal.
? The other Cardinal big-guy, senior Tanner Lowe, opened with a 5-2 decision over Minnetonka junior Oscar Arteaga. Lowe followed with a 4-3 loss to Shakpoee junior Corey Anderson to send him back to the consolation bracket which he won last year. Lowe edged Mounds View?s Mick Nelson 2-0 to reach the third place semifinals.

? Andover?s Corey Parson (160) won his first round bout by an 11-1 score against Sartell freshman Daniel Vitale before dropping a 10-1 decision against Apple Valley standout Brnadon Kingsley in the championship quarterfinals. Parsons won his next match over Shakopee?s Sam Hall 10-4 to earn a spot in the third place semifinal matech where he faces White Bear Lake?s Cody Anderson Saturday.
? Huskies 145-pounder Sam Stewart opened with a 16-1 tech fall over Osseo?s Tony Gamache but came up short against Branden Madsen of Stillwater by a 14-6 score to send Stewart to the consolation round. Stewart rebounded wtih a 5-3 win over Sartell?s Josh Halicke to reach the third place semifinals. He faces Mound-Westonka?s Tyler Hebig first on Saturday.

? Spring Lake Park senior Phillip Horsager (132) reached the championship quarterfinals with two wins Friday. He downed Brainerd/Pillager?s Dan Babineau in the opening round 9-6 before handing Minneapolis South?s Brandon Strong a 8-2 decision in the quarterfinals. Next up for Horsager is Forest Lake stand-out Ben Morgan who beat Apple Valley?s Dakota Trom 7-2 in the quarterfinals.
Spring Lake Park senior Matt Strasser (160) lost both matches including the opener to Albert Lea?s Dalton Westerlund by a tech fall (17-2) at 5:45 followed by a 6-0 loss to White Bear Lake?s Cody Anderson in the consolation bracket.

? Anoka brought two individuals to state and is looking for its 50th state champion this season.
Both remained on track for state titles after Friday?s matches.
Top-ranked 170-pounder and defending class champion Kyle Begin recorded pins in both opening day matches. He pinned Moorhead?s AJ Wheeler in 1:52 followed by a fall against Owatonna senior Jordan Zeman at 3:17. Next up is a semifinal meeting against Apple Valley?s Ben Sullivan.
Jeremy Beaman (145) reached the semifinals with two wins Friday by way of a 7-0 shutout of Alexandria?s Tony Hubbard and Maple Grove?s Zack Gawboy, 10-8.

? St. Francis? lone entrant, Taylor Charles lost his opening match to Eden Prairie?s Mat Gribben 6-2 who dropped his second-round match. That result ended Charle?s state tournamnet run.

? Blaine?s 195-pound sophomore Caleb Bulter got his state tournamnet off to a rocky start with a 12-4 loss to Shakopee senior Scott Bode 12-4. Bode lost his next round match to end Butler?s state tournament.
