Dining at Bocca Di Lupo and drinking at the Experimental Cocktail ...

So, I?d been meaning to go to Bocca Di Lupo for a month of Sundays. And FINALLY I went on Thursday of last week and am pleased to say that it was well worth the wait.

I was a little anxious when I was only offered 2 spaces at the bar from 6 till 8, thinking sitting at the bar a little inferior to at a table (the timing didn?t bother me so much ? after all it was a fairly late booking). However, sitting at the bar was actually a really good thing; we felt part of the kitchen with all its? theatre, smells, sights and sounds. Plus, we could interact with the chefs a little which I enjoyed a lot. I may be wrong, but it must be great as a chef to see people eating the food you?ve cooked, rather than being tucked away downstairs never to be seen by the people you?re creating for, albeit potentially a little exposing at times.

After a lengthy discussion with the sommelier we settled on a bottle of Lambrusco, a sparkling bottle of fruity lushness. Full of fruit and dancing bubbles, this was a perfect drink to not only toast good friendship to but also for sharing with a diverse range of dishes which were to come to us over the next couple of hours.

Of course we didn't go straight into that! An aperitif was required first to go alongside the delicious focaccia and olives to nibble; and a few moments later came an ap?rol spritz.

The menu at Bocca is a range of cured meats, pasta dishes, amazing grilled meat and fish as well as some delicious deep fried naughtiness.

Who could resist deep fried buffalo bocconcini; crisp balls hiding an oozing centre of rich yet slightly acidic, fresh pale whiteness. Joining this little nibble were 2 fantastic plates of food; crescentine with capocollo Di Martina Franca and squacquerone and a plate of sea bream carpaccio with raw red prawns and a dressing of blood orange and rosemary. Crescentine are little pillows of dough fried in lard. These were served warm so that the fat in the Capocollo (a delicious home made cured neck of pork), and the squacquerone (a soft, unctuous cows' milk cheese with a taste, in my opinion, of sweet fermenting harvested grass for hay), just started to melt. Simple gorgeous! The carpaccio was also delicious and I loved the addition of blood orange zest to the thinly sliced fish; a perfect compliment.

    20130127-163341.jpg

    <a
We then went on to enjoy two plates of pasta (by the way these come in small or large sizes, and we had the small size?moderation is the key?). First we enjoyed pappardelle (which is my favourite pasta) with a ragu of duck pluck (a mix of heart, liver and gizzard). Now I don't normally go for offal if I'm honest. However, I do like gizzards as a result of my year teaching in France where I ate many a 'salade P?rigourdine' with some delicious confit of gizzards mixed in. And I also love liver, so a bit of duck heart was the only thing I'd never eaten before so really this wasn't anything too scary at all. Indeed it was a rich, slow cooked ragu that perfectly coated my favourite ribbons of pasta.

    20130127-163836.jpg
The second plate of pasta was orecchiette with nduja (spicy sausage), red onion, tomato and rocket. Simple but delicious; great ingredients cooked well and served in a matter of moments. I enjoy these little pasta shapes too, with their thicker consistency, they always have a good bite to them, a perfect balance for the soft sauce napping the little ears of pasta.

    20130127-164234.jpg

We were tempted by the slow braised ox cheek in tomato and the mother of all steaks (serving 2 to 10!) that would frequently jump on the grill? (See below)

20130127-164355.jpgHowever, having already consumed a fair amount of food, we opted for the more modest spicy grilled sausage. Although delicious in its own right, I was a little non plussed by this dish? It was good, but just, a bit, well, average after everything else we had eaten. Other than that though, the experience was fantastic and I only wish I?d been sooner. I will certainly be going back. We spent just over ?100 for two which, given the food and alcohol we consumed, felt about right.

After dinner we nipped into Gelupo for some amazing ice cream (i was already a fan) and also to stock up on my favourite little liquorice tronchetinni which you must try if you?ve not yet; little nibs of unsweetened liquorice. Honestly. Try them.

Then off to the Experimental Cocktail Club we went? I love it there. Hidden, in the middle of China Town, it?s notoriously hard to get in and harder to get a table, but we were lucky. My hair must have looked good as they offered us two remaining seats at the bar in an instant?. Incidentally, you can ask for a card which takes you to a bookings page online? I?d suggest using that to avoid disappointment. Or, make sure you?ve done your hair really well.

Over the next couple of hours or so we enjoyed a selection of delicious concoctions. I?ve got into my cocktails over the last couple of years so it?s a real treat to go here. I enjoyed a saint Germain des Pres; a mix of gin, St Germain liqueur, lime juice, elderflower, egg white, a bit of spice and cucumber juice. This was so good, cooling and refreshing but certainly boozy with a hit of spice?

20130127-165459.jpgMy friend Ellie enjoyed a concoction of beetroot and rum, angostura bitters and lime which was delicious too and then we shared a Stockholm syndrome; vodka infused with cumin and dill, aquavit, lemon juice, sharp and bitters. This was genius. Interestingly, I got the cumin more than the dill, Ellie got the reverse. Either way, a great drink!

These cocktails don?t come cheap at about ?12.50 a pop but they are worth it and it?s not something you do every day. There?s also something really theatrical about cocktails and makes the seem worthwhile.

(AP) ? Novak Djokovic became the first man in the Open era to win three consecutive Australian titles when he beat Andy Murray 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday's final.

Little wonder he loves Rod Laver Arena.

"It's definitely my favorite Grand Slam," he said. "It's an incredible feeling winning this trophy once more. I love this court."

Djokovic has won four of his six major titles at Melbourne Park, where he is now unbeaten in 21 matches.

Nine other men had won back-to-back titles in Australia over 45 years, but none were able to claim three in a row.

Only two other men, American Jack Crawford (1931-33) and Australian Roy Emerson (1963-67), have won three or more consecutive Australian championships.

Born a week apart in May 1987 and friends since their junior playing days, Djokovic and Murray played like they knew each other's game very well in a rematch of last year's U.S. Open final. There were no service breaks until the eighth game of the third set, when Djokovic finally broke through and then held at love to lead by two sets to one.

Djokovic earned two more service breaks in the fourth set, including one to take a 4-1 lead when U.S. Open champion Murray double-faulted on break point.

"It's been an incredible match as we could have expected," Djokovic said. "When we play each other, it's always, we push each other to the limit and I think those two sets went over two hours, 15 minutes, physically I was just trying to hang in there. Play my game and focus on every point."

The 25-year-old Serb didn't rip his shirt off this time, as he did to celebrate his epic 5-hour, 53-minute win over Rafael Nadal in last year's final. He just did a little dance, looked up to the sky and then applauded the crowd after the 3-hour, 40-minute match.

Murray's win over Djokovic in the U.S. Open final last year ended a 76-year drought for British men at the majors, but he still is yet to make a breakthrough in Australia after losing a third final here in the last four years.

Djokovic's win went against the odds of recent finals at Melbourne Park. In four of the past five years, the player who won the second of the semifinals has finished on top in the championship match. But this year, Djokovic played his semifinal on Thursday ? an easy 89-minute minute win over No. 4-seeded David Ferrer. Murray needed five energy sapping sets to beat 17-time major winner Roger Federer on Friday night.

"You don't wake up the next day and feel perfect, obviously," Murray said of the Federer match. "It's the longest match I played in six months probably. It obviously wasn't an issue today. I started the match well. I thought I moved pretty good throughout."

The win consolidated Djokovic's position as the No. 1-ranked player in the world, while Federer and Murray will be second and third when the ATP rankings are released Monday.

Their last two matches in Grand Slams ? Murray's five-set win at last year's U.S. Open and Djokovic's victory here last year in five in the semifinals ? had a total of 35 service breaks.

It was a vastly different, more tactical battle on Sunday, with the first two tight sets decided in tiebreakers.

"All our matches in last three years have been decided in a very few points, so it's really hard to say if I've done anything different," Djokovic said. "I tried to be more aggressive. So I went for my shots, especially in the third and fourth; came to the net quite often. I was quite successful in that percentage, so it worked well for me."

Murray, who called for a trainer to retape blisters on his right foot at the end of the second set, was visibly annoyed by noise from the crowd during his service games in the third set, stopping his service motion twice until the crowd quieted down. After dropping the third set, he complained about the noise to chair umpire John Blom.

"It's just a bit sore when you're running around," Murray said. "It's not like pulling a calf muscle or something. It just hurts when you run."

Djokovic came from 0-40 down in the second game of the second set to hold his serve, a situation he called "definitely one of the turning points."

"He missed an easy backhand and I think mentally I just relaxed after that," Djokovic said. "I just felt I'm starting to get into the rhythm that I wanted to. I was little more aggressive and started to dictate the play."

Although Djokovic went into the match with a 10-7 lead in head-to-heads, Murray had beaten Djokovic five out of eight times in tiebreakers, and that improved to six of nine after four unforced errors by Djokovic to end the first set.

Djokovic pegged back that edge in the second set, when Murray also didn't help his cause by double-faulting to give Djokovic a 3-2 lead, and the Serbian player didn't trail again in the tiebreaker.

On the double-fault, Murray had to stop as he was about to serve to pick up up a feather that had fallen on the court.

"I could have served, it just caught my eye before I served ... I thought it was a good idea to move it," he said.

"Maybe it wasn't because I obviously double faulted. At this level it can come down to just a few points here or there. My probably biggest chance was at the beginning of the second set; (I) didn't quite get it. When Novak had his chance at the end of the third, he got his."

Djokovic will have little time to savor the win ? he's playing Davis Cup for Serbia next weekend against Belgium.

"It's going to be a lot of fun ... to see how I can adjust to clay court in indoor conditions, playing away Davis Cup, which is always tricky," he said.

Andre Agassi was among those in the capacity crowd ? the four-time Australian champion's first trip Down Under in nearly 10 years ? and he later presented the trophy to Djokovic.

Victoria Azarenka, who won Saturday's women's singles final over Li Na, was also there with her boyfriend rapper Redfoo. Actor Kevin Spacey met in the dressing room with both players ahead of the match and later tweeted a photo of himself with them.

In the earlier mixed doubles final Sunday, wild-card entrants Jarmila Gajdosova and Matthew Ebden of Australia beat the Czech pair of Lucie Hradecka and Frantisek Cermak 6-3, 7-5.

Kim Kardashian?s Family to Throw Baby Shower

    Posted by Adam

KIM Kardashian will get a lavish baby shower from her family.

The reality TV star is expecting her first child with boyfriend Kanye West and her mother Kris Jenner is working to throw a huge bash to celebrate despite her daughter?s protestations that she doesn?t want any fuss and would rather charity donations be made instead of people buying her expensive gifts..

?The shower is going to happen this spring, outdoors, under a tent in Kris? backyard,? a source said.

?The colors have already been chosen: silver, white, cream and pale yellow.

?She doesn?t want a big party. She has told friends she would prefer if they made a donation to the Dream Foundation in her name instead of physical gifts.

?This is their first child. Kanye is really close to his family, he will fly them in. He will probably put them up at the Bel Air Hotel and shuttle them over for the party.?

Estate Planning Focused on Long-term Care and Elder Law

Unknown-2Wealth Management reported on a speech at the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning relating to elder law planning. Speakers Lawrence Frolik and Bernard Krooks pointed out that estate planning work with a tax-planning focus may not be as prominent anymore since only about 4,000 estate tax returns filed will actually owe a tax. However, seventy percent of people will need long-term care, so focusing on long-term care might be a better way to secure work as an estate planner.

?The speakers expanded the definition of elder law to generally mean quality life planning for clients in the last 20 to 30 years of their lives.? Potential for dementia as clients age raises questions such as who will manage the client's affairs when he can no longer manage them.? Addressing the financial needs of long-term care is also a major concern. Lastly, the speakers touched on questions of legal capacity that might accompany cases of dementia.

See Martin M. Shenkman, Elder Law Fundamentals, WealthManagement.com, Jan. 14, 2013.?

Inhabitat's Week in Green: Tesla Model X, Wendy the pavilion and a robot named Baxter

Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week's most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us -- it's the Week in Green.

DNP Inhabitat's Week in Green TKTKTK

It's cold outside, but the cars at this week's North American International Auto Show were positively sizzling -- and Inhabitat sent several writers to report on the latest green cars to be unveiled at the show. Among the standouts at this year's auto show were Acura, which unveiled its sleek new NSX hybrid sports car, and Tesla, which showcased its all-electric Model X. Also on display in Detroit was Cadillac's 2014 ELR extended range EV with its gorgeous new interior. Want to see all the hottest rides from NAIAS 2013? Check out our roundup of the top seven hybrids and EVs from this year's show.http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/20/tesla-model-x-wendy-pavilion-robot-baxter/

While we were mostly preoccupied with the shiny new cars in Detroit, there were also plenty of exciting green architecture developments this week. Ronald Lu & Partners just announced that ZCB, the first net-zero energy building in Hong Kong is now open to the public. Meanwhile in China, the 2013 Harbin Ice Festival just kicked off in Zhaolin Park near the Songhua River -- and it features some absolutely stunning castles made entirely from ice. And Wendy, the spiky blue pavilion from NYC-based architecture firm HWKN, made its debut in Abu Dhabi, and an Inhabitat reporter was on the scene to tour it.

Last week was a good one for renewable energy news. Japan announced that it will soon build the world's largest offshore wind farm near Fukushima to compensate for scaling back its use of nuclear power since the 2011 meltdown. Electronics giant Panasonic unveiled the next-generation Ene-Farm, which is the world's most efficient home fuel cell. Researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory developed a device that detects weak or defective silicon wafers, which could save the solar industry billions of dollars. And the California Public Utilities Commission announced that California installed an impressive 1 GW of solar power by the end of 2012 -- the most of any state in the country.

Inhabitat also reported on a wide variety of green products last week, starting with the iRock, an ingenious rocking chair that recharges your iPad using kinetic energy. Industrial designer Max Gunawan unveiled the Lumio, a hardbound book that opens up to become a gorgeous low-energy lamp. A group of University of Toronto grads launched the NanoLight, which they claim is the world's most efficient LED light bulb. Rethink Robotics, a Boston-based robotics firm created a $22,000 humanoid robot named Baxter, which the company thinks can help revive American manufacturing. And finally, in case you missed it, Inhabitat recently launched a photo contest with LightCollector -- enter now for your chance to win $1,000!

Spain's government spokeswoman and deputy premier Soraya Saenz de Santamaria reacts to a question during a news conference at the Moncloa Palace in Madrid, Friday Jan. 18, 2013. Spain's conservative government is battling to defend itself and its Popular Party after a court revealed a former party treasurer amassed euro 22 million ($29.31 million) in a Swiss bank account. Saenz de Santamaria fended off a barrage of questions from journalists Friday by denying she knew anything about the money or newspaper reports that ex-treasurer Luis Barcenas also gave party members large sums in under-the table payments. MADRID (AP) ? Spain's governing Popular Party announced Saturday that it will investigate the financial activities of a former treasurer whom a court said had amassed an unexplained ?22 million ($29 million) in Swiss bank accounts.

After three days of intense public and media pressure, which saw party leaders try to distance themselves from any alleged corruption, party spokeswoman Maria Dolores de Cospedal said a scandal had to be averted.

"Information that is appearing these days can cause a scandal and is so serious that our party has to be exemplary and has to react," she said. "Therefore, we will have to go over everything we have done to prove to all Spaniards that our hands are clean."

Earlier, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy had said his hand "would not tremble" if revelations of alleged corruption in his party proved to be true. "There are matters before the courts, and those courts are acting," he said, referring to a court investigation that revealed ex-treasurer Luis Barcenas' Swiss accounts.

The case comes as Spain tries to emerge from its second recession in three years and has an unemployment rate of 25 percent, the highest in the European Union.

On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria denied knowing anything about the money or newspaper reports that Barcenas also gave Popular Party members large sums in under-the-table payments.

The same day, Cospedal denied that the party had distributed "black cash bonuses" from the construction industry to some of its top leaders.

The Spanish press has been scathing about the party's apparent inaction, and the normally supportive newspaper El Mundo said on its front page Saturday that the impression the Popular Party is giving is that it is "debating whether to cover up the secret payments or investigate them."

Barcenas resigned as party treasurer in 2009, some months after the investigation began, and he has not been charged with any crime. Barcenas' lawyer, Alfonso Trallero, has denied the money was illegally obtained or linked to the Popular Party.

While still in opposition, before taking office in November, Rajoy often showed public support for Barcenas.

The court revelations led to impromptu street protests in Madrid and Barcelona on Friday and Saturday.

The incidence of heartburn commonly experienced by many people can be temporary or it slowly slipped into a more complicated medical case when neglected. According to some clinical surveys, over 60 million individuals encounter symptoms related to heartburn. Despite the heartburn symptoms, it is not considered as a serious health condition, but it can certainly worsen and lead to other health problems.

Heartburn is a condition experienced from an underlying cause of abdominal health problem such as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Many individuals can identify heartburn by its symptoms. There are symptoms used in its diagnosis.

? One of the symptoms is burning sensation in the chest. The symptom primarily begins behind the sternum or also known as the breastbone, and can proceed upward to the throat. This symptom can be experienced soon after eating. The duration of the burning sensation can last from a couple of minutes to several hours. However, this kind of symptom may differ for every individual.

? Another symptom is a sour taste in the mouth. This normally happens when the content in the stomach regurgitates into the esophagus and may regurgitate back throughout the throat. The contents are accompanied by stomach acid. When this happens, an individual can normally experience a sour taste in the mouth.

? Dysphagia or difficulty swallowing can be manifested due to the burning sensation felt in the sternum up to the throat. This symptom of heartburn may cause difficulty in swallowing food. It also presents a feeling of choking especially in the area of the throat. However, this symptom does not always mean a person has heartburn; it may also be caused by other health conditions such as esophageal cancer and erosive esophagitis. A doctor must examine these symptoms to identify the root cause of the dysphagia correctly.

? Wheezing is also one of the heartburn symptoms. According to some studies, asthma and GERD are greatly connected within over 60 percent of the human population. This is because stomach acid reflux from GERD can aspirate from the esophagus into the airways of a person with asthma into their lungs. Hence, it can manifest difficulty of breathing and ultimately wheezing.

    Heartburn Treatment

The appropriate medical approach by the physician is to treat heartburn to avoid further complications. Like most common health conditions, this is not suggesting any serious health threat. However, if left untreated or ignored, heartburn can progress into more serious health problems. This is the reason why medical assistance is strongly encouraged.

? Modifying a person?s diet ? This can help a person prevent heartburn because of eating too fast or over eating. This habit can trigger the heartburn in some instances. The right technique to avoid heartburn is to relax and eat the food on regular speed. Even so, there are still different kinds of food that can induce heartburn such as acid-based food, vinegar, chocolate, tomato and many more. According to health experts, prevention is better than cure. This is why; it is important to avoid food that can activate heartburn.

? Prescription Medication ? There are different medications that can ease heartburn. These medications are classified as antacid, H2 blockers, and Proton pump inhibitors. The purpose of these medicines is to decrease the production of the acid inside the stomach. This is because when acid stays too long in the stomach it can result to acid reflux. The goals of these medications are to ease and stop further episodes of heartburn.

Knowing the different heartburn symptoms and treatments of heartburn aids a person to understand the possible actions to be done when the health complication is experienced. Thus, proper medical assistance must to be considered.
